How many of us would be grateful to God after losing everything we owned? Imagine losing family, friends, your home, business, your town. One of these would be painful. Many have lost all. In the midst of the destruction across Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and the other states effected by Hurricane Helene and now Milton, what do we find? We find people thanking God. People grateful for support and comfort. People grateful for sunshine and something to eat and drink.
Thank you to those of you who have already responded to the appeal to help those in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Countless are suffering from catastrophic loss and will be needing support for months as they rebuild their lives. Because of your generosity we have raised over $29,000 to help the victims of this disaster.

It is an honor to be networking with organizations around the nation to help bring aid to the people of North Carolina. We are in no way neglecting those in Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The groups we are partnering with are targeting those in greatest need. The destruction is real but in the midst of what appears to be hopelessness relief workers were in awe as people told stories of reliance on God and His presence in saving their lives.
Volunteers in the tiny hamlet of Minneapolis, North Carolina, population 429, listened. These are the stories they heard.
The pastor’s brother was killed.
A mother of four was washed away and found down river, her husband is in the hospital.
Horses, cattle found dead after being washed down the river.
The Volunteer, “I have never seen anything like this in my life. I’ll never forget these people. Everyone we encountered was grateful to God. They lost everything material. They lost family and friends, yet, they were grateful to God.”
A veteran who served in special forces in Afghanistan was in his home with his aunt. He was prepared to die. Nothing he witnessed in Afghanistan came close to the destruction he witnessed with Helene. His neighbor called his wife to say goodbye and climbed on his countertop and read his bible waiting to die. They were both 34. They lived. Pictures cannot described the devastation. There is no FEMA and most people do not want FEMA. FEMA stole supplies and hindered rescue efforts.
My medical contact in North Carolina reported the following: “It’s worse than anything the media is showing. The feds are doing nothing. We have Canadians, and the national guard from Florida and Louisiana and mostly volunteers. An eleven year old girl took her own life. No one got to the family for two days. A church holding 2000 people had not eaten in 6 days.”
I have a neighbor who drove a truck full of supplies to North Carolina. He did not hesitate. Countless are doing what is necessary to help neighbors in need.
Everyone plays a role. We cannot all be boots on the ground, but we can certainly help get supplies to the needed areas and we can certainly keep praying for all who have been harmed and those who are helping them recover.
