This week, Holy Week, in the Christian faith, is the most sacred week in the Christian calendar. It is a call of remembrance of triumph, pain, death and resurrection. This week we walk the steps of Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem followed by betrayal from His inner circle. A sham trial in which the guilty are set free and the man speaking the truth is mocked, tortured and crucified. To reflect on the pain and suffering of Jesus Christ, to reflect on our own suffering and suffering of others is a crucial element of life. To block out, to ignore, or to deny our own suffering or the suffering of others is to deny the pain of love. “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son…” John 3:16 For to choose to fully embrace love and its immense power and passion, we have to accept the pain of loss, inadequacy, sin and death. To walk the middle ground, of guarded self protection, is to never fully live.
In this Covid time, in many ways a surreal time, we have witnessed the passion of good men to save lives, by searching and discovering the tools of healing. We have witnessed good men, women, physicians, mocked, ridiculed, imprisoned and de-platformed. The self-righteous, sadducees and pharisees, stand aloft making pronouncement to the masses about what is acceptable. They manipulate with fear. We see so-called “good” doctors deny treatment, mock their peers who seek to save lives and wash their hands. They try to wash the blood from their hands, but they cannot. Nor can the politicians, the drug companies and our other leaders wash the blood from their hands. They have placed financial and political gain over the sacredness of human life.
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you” Jeremiah 1:5 The road we are walking is a road many of us never foresaw. However, we have said, we have had no choice but to walk this road because, to do otherwise would be to abandon our souls and our oath “to do no harm.” We have looked into the eyes of our patients, and shared their fear, their strength, their weakness, we have fought to save their lives. We have experienced triumph and tremendous loss when we witnessed their deaths. We understand that we are not the author of life or death nor should we seek to take on that role, that is the role of GOD. We have witnessed the ruthless acts of the elitists gods of big pharma, the CDC, NIH, and politicians who preyed upon the weak, the vulnerable and our children. They have made themselves gods and selfishly chose who should receive treatment and who should be denied. We have witnessed the brutality of the modern King Herods, seeking to destroy our children and families by slaughtering people with vaccinations. We have seen our churches become brothels to the government pushing control and indoctrination.
In this darkness, the world lies still as the stone is rolled in front of the tomb. In the midst of this oppressive grief, life is transformed and resurrected. The darkness is broken. The temple is destroyed. Though a great part of me wishes for a cosmic reawakening and the implosion of CNN, major media and the medical cartel, I know that transformation occurs in our hearts and souls. As each of us speaks and shares our stories, the truth will spread, just as the story of child, born in a manger came to guide us.
Thus, on this most sacred of days, I pray for that God may continue to infuse us with His wisdom, His guidance, His patience and strength as we speak the truth. May He guide our hands, hearts and minds as we work to provide healing to the sick and injured. Finally, may He open the hearts and minds of those who wish to look away from the slaughter of the innocents.
Dr. Sheila, the cross you have borne only adds to the power of the honor you accord this day. This Paschal mystery has been enriched by your words. Thank you again for all you have done to meet our Lord’s expectations.
Shalom
Craig
I agree wholeheartedly, Dr. Furey. I also have been meditating on the similarities between the Pharisees and the woke mob. There is nothing new under the sun. And, in a way, this is encouraging. Because good really does triumph over evil. What Covid has taught me is that evil has the appearance of looking enormous and overwhelming and insurmountable. Good can look small and insignificant, but has the power to completely change the world like yeast in a loaf of bread, like the Fellowship of the Ring saved the whole world. One step at a time. I keep praying the whole truth will come out. And I stand with you, determined that I will touch my whole sphere of influence with the compassion and truth of our time. Peace be with you, and have a blessed Easter.
