The above quote captures my vision at the beginning of Covid-19. I recall physician Facebook groups sharing data in real time and working toward solutions. Doctors posting their successes and asking for help as patients’ conditions worsened. I recall watching Dr. Pierre Kory testify before Congress on the use of steroids and believing the nightmare would soon be over. The human spirit and the selflessness of countless: Virginia’s Dr. Paul Marik, the FLCCC (now the Independent Medical Alliance), Frontline Doctors and countless ordinary people doing extra-ordinary things. They kept helping and working in the face of everyone else screaming fear and isolation. They chose LIBERTY for themselves and freely extended it to others.

Simultaneously, I witnessed the destructive power of the controlled shutdown, the two weeks to flatten the curve, and six feet rules. Sadly, there are still posters in buildings and in offices instructing you to wear a mask and stickers on the floor reminding you of the six foot distance. I ignore them all but I am sadden by those who continue to live in fear, whose lives and families have been forever changed.

This is why the Virginia Medical Freedom formed: to educate and empower the public that medial freedom, choice and the restoration of the doctor-patient relationship could occur. It was the realization that we must stand to protect every human life from conception until natural death and failure to do so would be the destruction of humanity.

April 30th was an historic day in Virginia. The Founding Freedom Law Center filed a formal complaint in Tazewell Circuit Court on behalf of the Virginia Medical Freedom Alliance, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons and Meagan Kade against the Virginia Board of Elections; the Virginia Department of Elections; G. Paul Nardo, in his official capacity as Clerk of the Circuit Court of Tazewell, Virginia, and the General Registrar of Tazewell County, Virginia.

This action is a response to the deceptive language of the proposed Constitutional Amendment on Reproductive Freedom. The people of Virginia deserve the truth. The people of Virginia are entitled to understand fully what the consequences are for a “yes” or “no” vote on this Constitutional amendment and all the amendments.

Constitutional issues should never be taken lightly. They should be debated in the public forum over and over again. But that is not what is happening, the truth is being buried in a quagmire of lies that say “women will die” if denied reproductive freedom.

The truth is health regulations designed to protect adult women and minors will disappear because the RIGHT to reproductive healthcare in all its forms must be permitted at all cost.

Dr. Furey stated at the press conference that, “the proposed constitutional amendment as written would significantly undermine patient safety, fully informed consent, and the nature of the doctor-patient relationship. What’s more, the ballot language that Virginians will read when making their decision does not make them aware of these consequences.

Take just two examples, which are important to our members: First, the doctor-patient relationship. The proposed Amendment makes it so that anyone at all can now perform an abortion, not just doctors and qualified nurse practitioners as the current law provides, and the state is expressly prohibited from holding anyone accountable who botches an abortion procedure even though they have little or no medical training. When it comes to significant surgical procedures, this amendment incentivizes an industry where the doctor is completely cut out of the process, and this puts already vulnerable patients at extreme risk. But no one would ever know that this is the case by reading the ballot language.

Another major issue is informed consent. If a non-medical professional is doing an abortion, can the woman really be giving informed consent when the person is not qualified to give them all the proper information? And what about minors, who will now be able to get abortions and permanent sexual sterilization procedures without even parental notification, let alone consent? Can a minor really give informed consent for such permanent and life-altering medical decisions? Most reasonable people with children know the answer is no. But again, no one would even know that’s what this amendment would do by reading the ballot language.

This presents an unconscionable, and we believe illegal, situation. We are choosing to bring a lawsuit on behalf of our members, so that they, as well as thousands of other Virginians, will not be deceived when they go into the voting booth. Virginians deserve to know the truth about what they are voting on.”

The official ballot question read as follows:

The above questions does not in any way, shape or form relay the catastrophic consequences of this ballot question.

1. This amendment will eliminate parental consent for abortion whether or not it is a chemical abortion or surgical abortion.

2. This amendment will eliminate parental consent for hormone blocking agents and cross sex hormones.

3. This amendment will eliminate parental consent for the sterilization of minors.

4. This amendment will end protections for statutory rape.

5. The amendment will enable sex offenders, rapists and those who sex traffic both men, women and children to further victimize these individuals by forcing them to have procedures against their will.

6. For those who are sex trafficked, medical personal will no longer be obligated to protect the victims but will be obligated to protect the traffickers.

7. Anyone, yes, I said anyone can perform an abortion without legal consequence. A person can purchase abortion pills and distribute at will without legal consequence. They do not need to provide informed consent. They do not need to understand the patient’s personal health care needs. The priority is that abortion in all its forms be available on demand. This WILL create backroom abortion centers.

8. Prisons will now need to provide conjugal visits. Conjugal visits between inmates and person on the outside. (Nothing could possibly go wrong with this insanity.)

9. All sexual behaviors will be permitted. There will be nothing to stop a pedophile from adopting children.

10. There will be no regulations on in vitro fertilization. Human beings will be a commodity for “scientific research.” Thus, embryos can be developed to any stage of development and then experimented on for profit. A human being can be “grown” and then the “owner” can decide if the child should be aborted for any reason without consequence. Thus, babies can be grown for organ harvesting. Yes, this is horrific! Yes, this is real. I am not being hyperbolic. Fetal organ harvesting is real.

    

    Virginians deserve the truth. Virginians do not want this evil but they have to understand what is at stake.

The churches cannot be silent on this issue. This is not a two minute mention on Sunday morning with apologies to the those who may have had an abortion or other procedure. The truth must be spoken over and over again. We have had over fifty years of indoctrination to accept abortion and defiant sexual practices as normal. Most people in a congregation have grown up with legalized abortion. For over 50 years, our churches have remained largely silent. Many directly say they do not want to lose donations. Because of the silence of countless in our churches, synagogs and other institutions, child sacrifice of pre-born and born children has become the norm. This needs to stop TODAY. It is so easy to look to other injustices that occur throughout the world, however, it is hard to look at the destruction occurring within our own homes, houses of worship and communities.

When human life is sacrificed for convenience, or to prevent “suffering” because of congenital malformation, or whatever reason one can come up with, every life is devalued. Thus, as we quickly dismiss an abortion at 6 weeks, thus, we quickly dismiss the cries of the sick, the elderly and the mentally ill.

The silence of our churches shows the complicit acceptance of evil. I believe most of our church leaders are in fact “a brood of vipers”. They are more interested in being politically correct and not offending the sinner than calling people to repentance.

The acceptance of the evil of abortion has destroyed the strength, beauty and importance of the feminine. It has also destroyed the protector of the masculine.

We are a nation who has lost its way. We have a medical establishment that is more invested in human beings as commodity and spread sheet statistics than in providing healing and wellness.

We can turn the tide by spreading the WORD and REJECTING THIS FRAUDULENT AMENDMENT.

The four proposed Constitutional amendments must be defeated. Voting has begun for the first of these amendments, REDISTRICTING. The official election day, Tuesday, April 21st, will be the final day to vote on the Redistricting amendment. The other three amendments will be on the November 3, 2026 ballot.

This amendment will allow the current General Assembly to redraw congressional district lines prior to the November 2026 election. The goal of the Democratic majority is to draw the lines, gerrymandering, to change the current balance of 6 Democrats and 5 Republicans to 10 Democrats and 1 Republican. Currently, the state is controlled by a super majority of democrats: Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Senators Warner and Kaine, 6 Congressional seats and the State Senate and House are democratically controlled.

The Redistricting Amendment

Ballot Question: “Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard restricting process resume for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?”

What is does “restore fairness” mean?

In 2020, Virginia voted to amend the Virginia Constitution to have electoral district lines drawn by a bipartisan committee. This legislation was approved by an overwhelming majority of the voters. It passed by a margin of greater than one million votes.

Current Virginia Law

Virginia law combats gerrymandering through a 16-member bipartisan Redistricting Commission (8 citizens, 8 legislators) created by a 2020 constitutional amendment, which draws districts for Congress and the General Assembly, aiming for compactness and avoiding dilution of minority voting power. Requirements in Va. Const. art. II, § 6-A and § 24.2-304.04 ensure proportional representation, contiguity, and community preservation, with final approval required from the General Assembly or the Virginia Supreme Court if deadlocked.

Key Virginia Legal Provisions on Redistricting:

• Independent Commission: The 16-member commission consists of eight citizens and eight legislators (evenly split between parties) to reduce partisan gerrymandering.

• Legal Criteria (Va. Code § 24.2-304.04): Requires Virginia’s congressional and state legislative districts to prioritize equal population, Voting Rights Act compliance to prevent racial vote dilution, preservation of communities of interest, contiguity and compactness, and no undue partisan favoritism.

• Compactness & Contiguity: Districts must be compact and contiguous.

• Anti-Dilution: Districts cannot dilute or diminish the ability of racial or language minorities to elect candidates of their choice.

The proposed Constitutional Amendment for redistricting is direct gerrymandering. “Gerrymandering is the practice of drawing or arranging the boundaries of electoral districts in a way that gives one political party or group an unfair advantage in elections”

Currently, congressional seats are held by 6 democrats and 5 republicans.

According to VPAP, the new legislative districts would be weighted to change the congressional makeup to 10 democratic seats and 1 republican seat. The proposed lines clearly do NOT reflect compact community guidelines.

The History

In October of 2025, the General Assembly held a special session to pass another redistricting amendment. This proposed amendment allows the General Assembly, not a bipartisan committee, to redraw congressional districts at anytime they choose rather than on a decennial cycle (every 10 years).

This will allow the majority members of the General Assembly to redraw the congressional districts every 1-2 years. Members of congress are elected every two years, however, if a member’s term ends prematurely, this would allow their district to be redrawn if that is the will of the General Assembly.

This is not what the citizens of Virginia voted for in 2020 and it is hoped that this will not be supported by the voters in 2026.

If you do not support endless gerrymandering, you must vote NO on the Constitutional amendment to redraw congressional districts.

THIS IS A FIRST AMENDMENT ISSUE: ABILITY TO SPEAK, ABILITY TO HEAR INFORMATION AND ABILITY TO ASSEMBLY PEACEABLY.

SB137 Obstructing health care facility access; penalties.

§ 8.01-44.8. Civil action for obstructing reproductive health services facility access. A. Any person injured by reason of a violation of § 18.2-404.1 may sue therefor and recover actual damages or $5,000 per violation, whichever is greater for each action, punitive damages, and reasonable attorney fees and costs. B. If the Attorney General on behalf of the Commonwealth, or the attorney for the Commonwealth or county attorney on behalf of a county, or the city attorney on behalf of a city, or the town attorney on behalf of a town has reasonable cause to believe that any person or group of persons is being, has been, or may be injured by conduct constituting a violation § 18.2-404.1, whether or not any individual has been charged with or convicted of the alleged violation, he may commence a civil action on behalf of such person or group of persons and the court may award injunctive relief. § 18.2-404.1.

Obstructing reproductive health services facility access; penalties.

A. As used in this section, unless the context requires a different meaning: "Facility" includes a hospital, clinic, and physician's office and the building or structure in which the facility is located. "Interfere with" means to restrict a person's freedom of movement. "Intimidate" means to place a person in reasonable apprehension of bodily harm to himself or to another person. "Law-enforcement officer" means the same as that term is defined in § 9.1-101. "Physical obstruction" means rending impassable ingress to or egress from a facility that provides reproductive health services or rending passage to or from such facility unreasonably or unnecessarily difficult or hazardous to another person. "Reproductive health services" means reproductive health services provided in a hospital, clinic, physician's office, or other facility, and includes any institution, place, building, or agency that is licensed, certified, or otherwise authorized or permitted by law in the Commonwealth to administer or provide medical treatment, including medical, surgical, counseling, or referral services relating to the human reproductive system such as pregnancy or termination of a pregnancy.

B. Any person not authorized by a reproductive health services facility who (i) by force or threat of force, or by physical obstruction, intentionally injures, intimidates, or interferes with, or attempts to injure, intimidate, or interfere with, another person because such other person is or has been, or in order to intimidate such person or any other person or any class of persons from, obtaining or providing reproductive health services or (ii) intentionally damages or destroys, or attempts to damage or destroy, a facility because such facility provides reproductive health services is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

C. A law-enforcement officer may order the immediate withdrawal of one or more individuals who have on that day interfered with access to or departure from an entrance or driveway to a reproductive health services facility. Any order issued pursuant to this subsection shall be in writing and shall include the following statements: (i) the individual or individuals have interfered with access to or departure from the reproductive health care facility; (ii) the individual or individuals so ordered shall, under the penalty of arrest and prosecution, immediately withdraw and cease to stand or be located within at least 25 feet of an entrance or driveway to the reproductive health care facility; and (iii) the order shall remain in place for eight hours or until the close of business of the reproductive health services facility, whichever is earlier. This subsection shall apply only if the 25-foot boundary is clearly marked pursuant to subsection E. Any person who violates any order issued pursuant to this subsection is guilty of a (a) Class 3 misdemeanor for a first or second offense or (b) Class 1 misdemeanor for any third or subsequent offense.

D. In addition to the penalties described in subsection B or C, any person who violates subsection B or a third or subsequent offense of subsection C is subject to a civil penalty in an amount not to exceed (i) $10,000 for a nonviolent physical obstruction, (ii) $15,000 for a violent physical obstruction, and (iii) $25,000 for any subsequent violation. Such penalty shall be collected by the attorney for the Commonwealth for the locality where the violation occurred, and the proceeds shall be deposited into the Literary Fund.

The hypocrisy of this legislation is that Governor Spanberger has made Virginia a sanctuary state for CRIMINALS. Governor Spanberger is protecting people who have murdered and raped people in Virginia. BLM and Antifa have been allowed to have “mostly peaceful” destructive protects for years but people working to protect innocent human life are criminals.

This legislation will criminalize people who are exercising there first amendment right to protect innocent pre-born children and young people who are seeking to obtain hormone blocking agents or hormones of the opposite sex. This article will focus on abortion and the Right to free speech, freedom to assembly and protest.

Women entering an abortion center have a right to informed consent. They have a right to hear and comprehend the risks, benefits and alternatives of any medication or procedure before agreeing to have a procedure or take a medication.

This legislation creates two standards: one for abortion escorts and one for sidewalk counselors, those people outside of abortion clinics seeking to provide the woman with additional information to protect her and her pre-born child.

This legislation allows for “abortion escorts” to surround a woman as she enters an abortion clinic. The ‘abortion escorts” are protected but the sidewalk counselors will be prosecuted. Thus, one group has their free speech protected while the other is fined and may serve time in jail.

Abortion escorts have no limitation in their ability to move in front of an abortion facility, but those who seek to save the lives of pre-born children have significant limitations that will result in significant criminal penalties.

It is clear that the practice of abortion is not about protecting women or children it is about making money. The abortion industry is a well oil machine that has indoctrinated our children, legislators and our churches.

By preventing sidewalk counselors, the last line of defense of the pre-born child is removed. Removing sidewalk counselors prevents a mother from receiving the necessary information to provide informed consent. This prevents a sidewalk counselor from asking the mother if she would like to obtain an ultrasound prior to her abortion. This prevents the mother from understanding that her actions will result in the death of a unique human being, not the death of “tissue.” This prevents the mother from hearing the complications of abortion: the risk of uterine tear, tears to the cervix, infection because the procedure introduced bacteria into the uterus or into her blood stream. This young mother is not informed of her hormones plummeting immediately following the procedure, the risk of suicide, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. This young mother is not informed of the increased risk of breast cancer, the increased risk of miscarriage, infertility and complications in future pregnancies.

The young mothers taking the abortion pill are not informed of the risk of sepsis, a life threatening infection of the blood and hemorrhage. They are not informed that if they change their mind, the abortion pill can be reversed. They are not informed that misoprostol induces labor not simply a “heavy menstrual cycle.”

Dismantling the legislation:

On the surface this appears to be about people who "obstruct” abortion facilities. This legislation is obstructing the Right to Free Speech, Free assembly, and the Freedom to protest. If this bill is unchallenged, it allows further erosion of our Constitutional Rights.

In this legislation:

• a healthcare facility- This is broad language. This includes clinics that perform abortion (this is an elective or induced abortion) as well as pregnancy resource centers that typically do not provide elective or induced abortions. I am specific in my language in reference to elective or induced abortions because the pro-abortion organizations including the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology are blurring the language of abortion to include spontaneous abortions, otherwise known as a miscarriage or still birth. In a miscarriage or still birth, the pre-born baby dies from any number of causes, however, no direct action was taken to kill the pre-born child. In an elective or induced abortion, a direct action is taken to end the life of the pre-born child.

• Interfere - This technically does not cover simply standing outside the clinic. Does interference begin when you speak? Thus, freedom of speech is what is now classified as interference? If you were to obstruct the door then that would be considered interference. However, is now the attempt to engage a mother in a conversation interference? Thus, the mother does not have a right to informed consent.

• Intimidate- This is already prohibited by law. Intimidations was previously defined in law. Current law has established a standard of “credible threat” based on threats of violence, aggressive behavior, tone and gestures. Now, with this law, will people who are simply standing and/or talking outside of an abortion clinic may be classified as intimidating? Now, will people asking another to reconsider their potential actions be classified as intimidating? Thus, if I ask a person to stop and think before acting, to pause before completing a dangerous and potential deadly decision, I am demonstrating intimidation? If I ask someone to make a decision not to drive intoxicated, is this intimidation? If I ask someone to reconsider life threatening behavior (substance abuse, high risk relationships, speeding) is this intimidation?

• “Physical obstruction” means rending impassable ingress to or egress from a facility that provides reproductive health services or rending passage to or from such facility unreasonably or unnecessarily difficult or hazardous to another person. If this code is passed, a person can be viewed as blocking the driveway to a clinic if they are attempting to hand out literature to people in vehicles. Again, the last chance for informed consent.

• “Reproductive health services” means reproductive health services provided in a hospital, clinic, physician’s office, or other facility, and includes any institution, place, building, or agency that is licensed, certified, or otherwise authorized or permitted by law in the Commonwealth to administer or provide medical treatment, including medical, surgical, counseling, or referral services relating to the human reproductive system such as pregnancy or termination of a pregnancy. (This means IVF clinics, clinics offering cross sex hormones, hormone blockers and surgical procedures related to sex organs, and clinics or hospitals that exclusively provide abortion at all stages of pregnancy.
  

Consequences: Guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. This creates a double standard. Clinic escorts that surround a person entering a clinic and specifically prevent the person surrounded from hearing or receiving information that allows for informed consent and not prosecuted.

A person must be provided information so that they can understand fully the consequences of a surgical procedure or medications that will end a pregnancy. The person must understand the risks, benefits and alternatives to the medication or procedure. The person must understand that their actions will result in the death of another human being. They must comprehend this information prior to giving assent to the procedure or reception of medications that will end the pregnancy or disrupt hormones. Clinic escorts prevent women from hearing the truth. Clinic escorts pressure and tell women not to listen to sidewalk counselors who are attempting to give them information to allow for truly informed consent. Thus, only one side gets arrested. The sidewalk counselors who are seeking to provide women with informed consent vs. the clinic escorts who seek to prevent informed consent. The sidewalk counselors will be charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor with up to 12 months in jail and or a fine up to 2500.) Consequences for the escort: none.

A law-enforcement officer may order the immediate withdrawal of one or more individuals who have on that day “interfered” with access to or departure from an entrance or driveway to a reproductive health services facility. Any order issued pursuant to this subsection shall be in writing and shall include the following statements: (i) the individual or individuals have interfered with access to or departure from the reproductive health care facility; (ii) the individual or individuals so ordered shall, under the penalty of arrest and prosecution, immediately withdraw and cease to stand or be located within at least 25 feet of an entrance or driveway to the reproductive health care facility; and (iii) the order shall remain in place for eight hours or until the close of business of the reproductive health services facility, whichever is earlier. This subsection shall apply only if the 25-foot boundary is clearly marked pursuant to subsection E. Any person who violates any order issued pursuant to this subsection is guilty of a (a) Class 3 misdemeanor for a first or second offense or (b) Class 1 misdemeanor for any third or subsequent offense.

(There is no prohibition against simply standing within 25 feet of the clinic. But if a law enforcement officer tells you to withdraw THEN you can be criminally liable for standing within 25 feet. The law enforcement officer has to issue you that direction in writing. The writing has to say that you interfered on that day-not yesterday or the day before. They have to issue an order in writing AND writing has to include specific things. A verbal order to withdraw does not make you liable under the bill).

Is this an appropriate use of law enforcement? Law enforcement will be outside abortion clinics 6-7 days a week rather than protecting people from violent offenders.

D. In addition to the penalties described in subsection B or C, any person who violates subsection B or a third or subsequent offense of subsection C is subject to a civil penalty in an amount not to exceed (i) $10,000 for a nonviolent physical obstruction, (ii) $15,000 for a violent physical obstruction, and (iii) $25,000 for any subsequent violation.

Sections B, C, and D provide penalties, they are separate penalties for different acts. Section E says penalties under C and D can’t be imposed if the signage isn’t there but you can still be liable under section B if signage isn’t there. Section B only penalizes you if you actually obstruct the entrance.

There are two ways you can be penalized under this law:

1.) You actually obstruct the entrance or engage in violence or destruction or property damage.

2.) You stand within 25 feet of an entrance of the clinic after receiving a written order form a law enforcement officer containing all the necessary language.

Will clinic personnel claim that sidewalk counselors are violating the law and call the law enforcement for any perceived infraction? YES

Will law enforcement make arrests and hand out more fines? Yes

The assumption is that you are guilty until proven innocent. The system is stacked against the sidewalk counselors.

This law is excessive.

It is a direct violation of first amendment rights.

This bill fail failed in Senate committee on Education and Health this morning. This was only accomplished because of your phone calls, emails and countless people speaking directly to legislators. This battle is far from over. HB886 remains active on the House side, thus, it is important that we keep the pressure on this committee. This is the House fiscal impact statement. Please contact each member above to let them know that Medical Assistance in Dying is not compassion, it is the direct coercion of vulnerable patients. This is driven by people who have a vested interest in the death of a vulnerable person at the end of their life. Palliative care and hospice are available. There is help to navigate the system. Pain is treatable. What people desire most at the end of life is the presence of another, acceptance, patience and for many the opportunity to forgive and be forgiven. Many are fearful and simply discussing their fears helps bring peace. The answer to the emotional challenges at the end of life should never be answered with a prescription for death. PLEASE NOTE THIS BILL WOULD REQUIRE PHYSICIANS/HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS WHO DO NOT SUPPORT KILLING THEIR PATIENTS TO PROVIDE THE PATIENT WITH THE NAMES OF PHYSICIANS/HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS WHO WILL KILL THEM. I simply say, “Not on my watch.”

Of historical note, Derek Humphry’s was a leading advocate for the Right to Die. He died in 2025 of natural causes. He did not opt for physician assistance suicide in his own death. He provided his first wife with the medication to end her own life after being treated for terminal breast cancer. However, his second wife, Ann Humphry, also diagnosed with breast cancer, and her friends reveal perhaps a very different picture of Derek Humphry. Though Ann was initially an advocate of assisted suicide and supporter of her husband Derek’s work at the Hemlock Society, her views began to shift. She was later able to express regret at assisting in the deaths of her parents. It is crucial to note that neither her father or mother were terminally ill. Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer and shortly after this diagnoses, their marriage ended in divorce. Sadly, she ended her life by suicide and wrote, “Ever since I was diagnosed as having cancer, you have done everything conceivable to precipitate my death. . . . What you did—desertion and abandonment and subsequent harassment of a dying woman—is so unspeakable there are no words to describe the horror of it.” Again, this is not compassion.

Ann Humphry was not alone in revealing the tragic stories of vulnerable patients who were deceived by those pushing the agenda of “medical aid in death.” These sickening stories describe Mark Lyons a “prominent member … Exit, who would visit members’ homes on demand with a “suicide kit” of gloves, plastic bags, and drugs, and who once told a woman who was having doubts over her suicide request: “You bloody stupid bitch. . . . There will be no questioning of my commandment, none.” This is not compassion!

Back to the Senate. SB359 was voted down: Yeas: 7 Nays: 8 Senators Aird and VanValkenburg voted with all Republicans.

This was a major milestone, but we must continue to keep up the pressure because if the House version of this bill continues, it will be back in the hands of this committee.

Just as we fighting Medical Assistance in Dying. We must also be aware of medical kidnapping. This is the act in which a child in custody of their parents is removed from their care because of a conflict over treatment course.

Kenlee Zuraff is a 7 year old girl with cystic fibrosis. Two years ago, one of Kenlee’s physicians recommended she begin treatment with Trikafta. Drug interactions with Trikafta. Kenlee was removed from her mother’s custody because her mother had concerns about the potential for liver damage and liver failure from this drug. Please note Kenlee was 5 years old at the time and the clinical studies were completed on 78 children from age 6-12.

When making medical decisions, we have a right to informed consent which means the ability to say NO. The mother has the right to understand the risks, benefits and alternatives of each medication prescribed to her daughter. The mother needs to have the ability to weigh those risks and make an informed decision. Kenlee’s mother or any parent should not be threatened with the removal of their child because of a disagreement about the treatment plan or requesting a second or third opinion.

What happened next is alarming. When her mother requested more time and information, the physician filed a report of Abuse/Neglect with Child and Family Services in Florida and Kenlee was removed from her mother. It is important that we work to achieve medical freedom in Virginia and across this nation. Treatment should never be mandated.
